JASMINE RAD
After living in Los Angeles for over 16 years, I felt not only fortunate for my own life but also for the many opportunities I am given on a daily basis to take leadership and action. I attend Milken Community School and noticed my passion for our homeless community in elementary school after learning minor realities of unstable living, starting with food insecurity. After many years, I learned that relief comes in many different shapes and forms. Weather it be giving our homeless community a feeling that they are not alone, offering nourishment on a daily basis, on holidays, providing financial support , finding temporary housing, providing emotional support, providing basic necessities such as feminine hygiene products and more. This passion assisted me in creating The Women's Antiseptic Project in hopes to relieve homeless women of period poverty and ensuring health in a place where that is not guaranteed.
I firmly believe that all humans lacking stable and appropriate housing deserve to be supported and cared for by their neighbors. Attention must be brought to this issue and justice will be served. I believe that this will require educating ourselves, our peers and those who poses leadership positions in our cities. I believe that we can give in many ways in order to heal. Donating money to fund sack lunches, menstrual hygiene products, clothes etc. Donating time to speak with our homeless neighbors, give them hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
So please, join me in finding gratitude for our surroundings, our city and our peers by helping other out.
HERa's Mission
Formerly known as Womens Antiseptic Project, HERa is now committed to donating monthly deliveries of feminine hygiene products to various missions, shelters and causes to support homeless women in Los Angeles. Contributions will sustain women with the resources they need in order to have proper feminine hygiene, which ultimately suppresses rates of infection within dense communities. Many risks come with poor hygiene, such as: infections that will affect reproduction and fertility and many different types of gynecologic cancers. Homeless communities do not have nearly the amount of resources to be diagnosed with these setbacks, leaving them with a harder recovery. Studies have proven that poor hygiene, especially during menstruation will take a toll on young girls and women, disadvantaging them from potential opportunities.
The opportunities for contributors and volunteers are endless. Having experience working with organizations for long terms can build character and a lengthy resume. To be educated on the reality of our city is priceless. But why would anyone choose us? Residences of LA should choose to work with us because we are very straightforward and unfiltered. We have a deep and authentic desire and passion for females who live in much worse conditions than us. Creating packages for our homeless community will ensure them days, and even months of a more comfortable lifestyle, which is a small but memorable difference in their lives’. The funds donated will be used directly to purchase as many disposable sanitary pads, tampons, panty liners, reusable pads, cleansing cloths, soaps and sanitizer.
